DSP of the Month: Alice Nyirahumure
Congratulations to Alice Nyirahumure, August’s Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month!
Alice has always had a true passion for service, according to those who work alongside her. Hailing from Central Africa, Alice brought with her a rich background shaped by her roots and a career grounded in helping others. Her professional journey began in the realm of customer service, where she fine-tuned her communication skills and commitment to understanding people’s needs.
In February 2025, Alice embarked on a new chapter as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Rosebud Home Care.
“This decision was sparked by my love for working with people and my desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve,” Alice said. “Being a DSP is not merely a job—it is an opportunity to enrich each day with purpose, connection, and genuine enjoyment.”
Kimberly Chapman, Office Manager at Rosebud Home Care, said that Alice thrives in her role, embracing the company’s supportive culture and the fulfillment that comes with her daily work.
“She finds joy in accompanying individuals into the community, ensuring their days are filled with activities and opportunities tailored to their preferences,” Kimberly said. “Alice believes in empowering each person—if someone hasn’t chosen how to spend their day, she delights in presenting a variety of options, encouraging self-expression and autonomy. The simple pleasure of getting paid to share fun and laughter, she says, is a gift in itself.”
Courtney Hineman, BCBDD Community Outreach Advocate, has been a client of Alice’s since February and said that during the time she has been with her, she has gone above and beyond.
“In May, my stepmom was sick, and she couldn’t go with me and my dad to Pigabilities in Cincinnati, so Alice went with me and my dad to walk with me in Pigabilities,” Courtney said. “She is always willing to help out and cover if I need a staff person, and I always enjoy our time together. We have gone to the Zoo, The Main Event in West Chester, shopping, and Pinball Garage. I really enjoy when we go to my church together on Sundays. Alice went with me recently to my Grandma Shafer’s Memorial Service, and that meant so much to me.”

Alice said her sense of purpose is amplified through her close working relationship with Courtney.
“I value the conversations, Courtney, and I share and treasure the adventures we embark on together, exploring the community and creating memorable experiences,” Alice said. “Courtney’s vibrant spirit—her intelligence, independence, and zest for staying active—inspires me daily.”

For Alice, being a DSP at Rosebud is more than a career; it is a calling made joyful by the relationships she builds and the lives she touches.
“My story is a testament to the positive impact that dedicated, heartfelt support can have—not only for the individuals served, but for the professionals who walk alongside them.”
