Ribbon Cutting unveils Butler County’s first Universal Changing Tables

Only 3 days after the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we celebrated another milestone for accessibility in Butler County with the unveiling of universal changing tables distributed at key locations throughout the county.

Many people stand behind a ribbon. Two women in the middle hold a large pair of scissors and begin to cut the ribbon. Above the group hangs a sign that says Family restroom Universal Changing tables.

Universal changing tables (UCTs) are specialized equipment designed to provide a safe and dignified space for changing individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities or medical needs, who may not be able to use standard bathroom facilities.

Up until now, there were no publicly accessible UCTs in the county. Thanks to a grant that we secured, we purchased 10 UCTs and gifted them to community partners spanning the entire county.

Four people stand together. Two of them hold a plaque. Light on the plaque makes the text indistinguishable.

It’s easy to take for granted something so simple as having a public restroom available to you. For many of the people we support, these universal changing tables will profoundly impact their ability to spend time in their community with dignity. We are grateful to our partners who are helping us by adding this resource and therefore creating better opportunities for Butler County residents to access our community.

Those partners include: MetroParks of Butler CountyFitton Family Y, MidPointe Library System, Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill, and Inspiration Studios, Location snot yet open include: City of Oxford, Ohio Administration, The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields and also for private use, Easterseals

Many thanks the West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance for making this ribbon cutting so special and thank you also to Travel Butler County, Ohio who has worked hard this year to expand accessibility for visitors to the county.

A crowd of people gather in a large brick hallway. A sign hangs on the wall above the group. It reads Family restroom Universal Changing Table.
