On Thursday, September 11, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities (BCBDD, the Board) passed a resolution declaring the Board to be in a state of fiscal emergency due to the fact that our projected expenses will far exceed our local tax collection for the first quarter of 2027.
Congratulations to Temar Merriweather, October’s Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month!
Temar has been working as a DSP for nearly four years for TRH Solutions, LLC. Her journey into direct support work began with a deeply personal motivation: a passion for helping others and a desire to make a difference. Inspired by her own family’s experience with disability, Temar chose a career where she could give others the same care, love, and support she would want for her own children.
“Being a DSP gives me purpose and fulfillment,” Temar said. “It’s not always easy, but it’s always rewarding. You get to be part of someone’s growth and journey, that’s a gift.”
At TRH Solutions, Temar’s favorite part of her work is building strong relationships with the people she supports and witnessing their progress toward independence. She describes every day as unique, full of small victories and meaningful moments. One of her most cherished memories is decorating for Christmas with clients Nancy and Susan Ventre, a heartfelt memory that now holds even more significance, as it was the last time they all spent time together.
Over the past year, Temar has become a pillar of strength and support for the Ventre family, especially for Susan. As both of Susan’s parents faced serious health challenges, including the passing of Susan’s mother, Nancy, on August 9, 2025, Temar has remained by Susan’s side, offering not just daily care but also emotional support, advocacy, and compassion.
“I knew Susan was going through so much,” Temar said. “I wanted her to feel seen, heard, and never alone. Helping her process her grief and continue working toward her goals has been one of the most meaningful parts of my work.”
With the support of Temar and Tecola Harrison, the owner of TRH Solutions, Susan has made incredible progress. Once limited by severe social anxiety, Susan now engages more at home, spends more time in conversation, and has recently started attending a day program, a huge milestone in her journey.
Ginger Halcomb, Susan’s SSA, said Temar has become a major support figure in Susan’s life.
“At the funeral visitation for her mother, Temar held Susan’s hand, helped her communicate with others, and stayed by her side throughout,” Ginger said. “The love and advocacy Temar and Tecola have shown this family is truly remarkable.”
In addition to supporting Susan, TRH Solutions has extended care to the entire Ventre family. Knowing how much Susan’s father, David, has gone through with the loss of his wife and his own ongoing treatments, Temar and Tecola have gone above and beyond to relieve stress from the family and ensure Susan has as much time and connection with her father as possible.
Temar loves working as a DSP because it gives her both purpose and fulfillment, knowing that she is making a positive impact on someone else’s life.
“If you enjoy helping others, being patient, and want to be part of something bigger than yourself, being a DSP could be the path for you,” Temar said. “It challenges you but it also fills your heart in ways few other jobs can.”
