Our agency is in the process of updating our strategic plan. We are currently deciding what our goals as an agency should be for the next three years. We want to make sure we focus on what matters most to the people we support, to the partners we work with, and to Butler County residents (our taxpayers). Eligibility now provided through SWOCOG

This eligibility department is in the process of moving to the umbrella of support provided by the Southwestern Ohio Council of Governments (SWOCOG). The transition will officially occur on August 1, but we are already working together to ensure the process is seamless for the families and individuals we serve.

Due to the transition, there may be a slight delay in communication. Until August 7, there will be a limited number of in-person assessments as we work to transition as smoothly as possible. Please know that all information submitted during that time, whether via email or phone call, will still be attached to your case file.

First Major Shift in Staffing Occurs after BCBDD Reduction in Force

Eligibility Services now provided through regional agency, SWOCOG

Butler County: In response to their declared fiscal emergency, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities announced a nearly 25% reduction in staffing in April of 2026. generating about $4.6 million in savings. The restructuring plan included phase outs of several BCBDD departments and teams with the intention of shifting several services to operations at the Southwest Ohio Council of Governments (SWOCOG). Beginning Monday, August 3, the first of those services will be shifted as Eligibility and Enrollment for BCBDD services will now occur through SWOCOG.

Due to the upcoming transition, there may be a slight delay in communication and limited availability for in-person assessments until August 7. All questions regarding eligibility should be sent to eligibility@swocog.org.

As of July 1, BCBDD’s maintenance and custodial departments were eliminated with their building being turned over to operations by the Butler County Commissioners.

On Oct. 1, the investigative agent team (adult protective services for Butler County residents with developmental disabilities) will begin operations at the SWOCOG.

About the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities

The Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities provides services and supports to about 4,300 Butler County residents so they can successfully live, work, and learn in the community. Supports and services are available life-long through partner agencies or directly provided by the Board. The Board’s primary source of funding is from property tax levies collected annually. The Board was last on the ballot in 2026.
