On Thursday, September 11, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities (BCBDD, the Board) passed a resolution declaring the Board to be in a state of fiscal emergency due to the fact that our projected expenses will far exceed our local tax collection for the first quarter of 2027.
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) make a meaningful difference every day by helping people with developmental disabilities live full and connected lives in their communities. This month, we are proud to recognize Jamie Lamb from Blessed Homecare for her compassion, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond!
Jamie joined the Blessed Homecare team in 2024 and quickly became an invaluable member of the organization.
“When I first saw the job description, I thought it sounded too good to be true,” Jamie said. “I had only worked in retail and warehouses before and was looking for something different. Lisa Spicer reassured me that becoming a DSP would be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and she was right!”
According to the Director of Operations of Blessed Homecare, Lisa Spicer, Jamie has not only built strong relationships with the individuals she supports but also has consistently stepped up in extraordinary ways.
“From taking an individual out of state for a funeral, to being a voice with a bill collector for setting up an agreement, to even assisting in getting a contract for work on making a video, Jamie is always willing to try something new and find amazing opportunities to get out in the community with those she serves,” Lisa said. “She is also the ULTIMATE team player! This past Christmas, she opened up her own home, bought the ingredients, and invited staff and individuals into her home for a cookie-baking party! Whenever help is needed to step in if a DSP is out sick or on vacation and I am not available to be a substitute, Jamie will right away work it into her schedule. She is one of the biggest blessings we have at Blessed Homecare!”
Jamie says she values the supportive culture at Blessed Homecare and the family-like atmosphere built by Lisa.
“Lisa has been an inspiration from the beginning,” Jamie said. “She’s passionate, genuine, and always willing to help. She’s more than the head of a company. She’s the head of a family. That family atmosphere is what inspired me to host the holiday cookie baking event. We enjoy spending time together outside of work and cheering for each other at bowling or sharing snacks during bingo. Opening my home for cookie baking started as a simple idea for our Christmas party, and it turned into a lot of fun and a lot of cookies!”
Jamie has so many favorite things she loves about being a DSP, but she says her absolute favorite is making memories with the individuals she supports.
“One of my favorite things about being a DSP is making memories with the individuals I support, being there when someone tries something new, overcomes a fear, or accomplishes something for the first time,” Jamie said. “Sometimes it’s simply being present when someone needs support. Those moments are priceless!”
Congratulations, Jamie, and thank you for the incredible difference you make every day!
